Flamingo Land
A theme park and zoo rolled into one attracting 1.8 million visitors a year. Try out Pterodactyl, a vertical swing ride guaranteed to get the hairs standing up at the back of your head and Mumbo Jumbo a rollercoaster that made it to the Guiness Book Of Records when it first opened in 2009. Visit the website www.flamingoland.co.uk.
Lightwater Valley
Another family theme park designed to fill your day with thrills, chills, and spills. You can catapult to dizzying heights aboard the Whirlwind, or hurtle through dark, dense forest on The Ultimate, reputably Europe's longest rollercoaster. The wild river rapid ride is also popular, as is the spinning Eagle's Claw. Find out more at www.lightwatervalley.co.uk.
NYM Steam Railway
Take a trip on the popular world heritage steam railway through the dramatic moorland scenery of the national park. A great way to visit the isolated villages of Grosmont and Goathland, made famous by the TV 50s crime series Heartbeat. You can also hop off for a pretty walk around the Levisham Estate.
